Poder is an old southern Istrian term for land, property, or an estate belonging to a family or held in their care for generations.

But Poder Sijan is all that and so much more. 

It’s the feeling that everything is in its place:

man, plants, time.

Sijan is the name under which our land is registered in the land registry. It’s the land where our new home stands, along with two olive groves, an orchard, and a vineyard. 

Our estate, where we nurture what exists and continually plant something new, looking forward to the time when someone—perhaps not us—will enjoy its fruits…

At Sijan, nature reveals its generosity not only through olives but also through countless wild plants.

Dogwood, pomegranate, figs, hawthorn, thyme, sloe, rowan, immortelle, and St. John’s wort are just some of the gifts the land joyfully offers.
Alongside them, we’ve planted quince, almond, sweet chestnut, walnut, apple, pear, apricot, plum, and grapevines…

Our wish is to transform these gifts of the earth into products that are pure, homemade, and free of artificial additives.  Various oils (not just olive), macerates, old-fashioned sweets, and jams will be crafted in small batches, with care and respect for nature and humanity.

Perhaps we’ll surprise you with an unexpected combination of dogwood jam and olive oil—a wholly new, indescribably exciting sensory experience.

The Return...

By my core training, I am a doctor, a psychiatrist with a psychodynamic orientation.
I see a person as a whole, recognizing that a multitude of aspects—physical, spiritual, religious, internal belief systems about oneself and the world, and the imprints of various life experiences—make each of us so uniquely ordinary. 
I view nature the same way.
I feel deep respect and gratitude for what surrounds me.

In this anthropocentric world, alienated from everything—nature, organic, biological rhythms, mind from body, one another, and ourselves—I believe that finding balance, measure, and harmony is the path to health. Health in the broader sense, not just the absence of illness…
